She played major parts in TV shows including the renowned Fame and Good Times in 1980.  When she reached 16, she joined the A&M as a recording artist and released her debut album carrying her own name in 1982.  However, she was criticized for having a voice with limited range, and as another Jackson recording artist.  She became more criticized for one of her Janet Jackson tattoos featuring Minnie Mouse and Mickey.

They believe that it’s inappropriate for her to have this kind of tattoo embedded on her body.  But Janet keeps her cool; she doesn’t see anything wrong with it.

She reveals that with a lot of sex adventures that she has experienced during her youth, it’s no longer amazing to have this kind of tattoo to be included in her collection of her tattoos printed on her body.  She insists that it should be viewed more of fun rather than being nasty.  She said that whenever she sees it, she feels hot and she’s reminded that sex is really good and should be practiced regularly with great passion. She also prefers to have a limited number of tattoos etched on her body.  She doesn’t want them to be bright, big and shiny that can catch the attention of the public.  Among her tattoos include an image of a Borneo scorpion at her back, and a Japanese kanji at the back of her neck that symbolize continuity, friendship and balance.

She claims that her tattoos play an important part in all her accomplishments.  Apart from the awards she received for her albums, MTV, music videos and choreography, she is also acclaimed as an outstanding role model for creating song lyrics that are directed towards social consciousness.  The “Sankofa” on her right wrist that also comprises her Janet Jackson tattoos is symbolic of “ability to look back and pick-up the spilled pieces.”
